What it does
Week one for a new hire is usually a Slack message with a vague checklist. This recipe loads the role-specific onboarding template, builds a tailored day-by-day plan with priority reading, cross-team 1:1s, and two starter tasks the new hire actually ships — then sends it to them with the manager copied.
How it works
- Load template. The role-specific onboarding template is pulled along with team customizations and the priority-doc list for the role.
- Build plan. A 5-day plan is composed with daily events, 4 cross-team 1:1 partners, 6 priority docs with context, and 2 starter tasks.
- Ship. Plan goes to the new hire’s email; manager gets DM’d with the plan link; day 1 events get scheduled on the calendar.
Setup
- Connect a docs destination (Notion, Google Docs, or Confluence).
- Connect an email account (Gmail or Outlook).
- Connect a messaging channel (Slack or Teams).
Variations
- Run a 30-day version that covers weeks 2-4 with milestone check-ins.
- Auto-pair the new hire with an onboarding buddy via team rotation.
- Generate a “what to expect this week” doc the manager can reference.
